As a materialist, I understand the concept as another fold into the material real, not so much a grasping as a translation or perhaps transduction into a different and mode of expression. I’d concur that a concept is always to some extent a generalization though. I find the last statement very dubious: stating that concepts cannot grasp material particulars doesn’t feel like stating a concept cannot grasp a concept, but stating that a concept cannot grasp ‘the embodied experience of the individual’ certainly does! It comes dangerously close to naturalising the concepts ‘experience’ and ‘individual’. Maybe that’s already writing too much in response to such a brief quote…
